Ms. Leigh Kinter has has worked in professional theater most of her life. She began her journey as a young dancer in several Broadway musicals and traveled to major cities across America in national touring companies. As a dancer she worked notably with Agnes De Mille, Herbert Ross and Robert Alton.
As a writer she recorded her travels and experiences through creating stories, poems and eventually plays. She and her first husband established a dance company in the Netherlands and toured with the group throughout France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. When she returned to the US, New York University Workshop presented her first play, “Flight Into Summer.”
Ms Leigh continued her work as a director- choreographer reconstructing some of Broadway’s most popular shows in professional regional theaters. Among her favorites were ‘Camelot,” “My Fair Lady”, “Man of La Mancha” and “Fiddler On The Roof “ not to forget the more intimate “Jacques Brel “and Fantastiks”
As an actress, she was cast in a revival production of Tennessee Williams, ”Rose Tattoo,” starring Maureen Stapleton.
Ms. Leigh Kinter remarried and choreographed “Ten By Six” an off Broadway musical melodrama, written and composed by her husband Richard Kinter. In the mid-nineteen nineties she founded the non-profit company, Ballet For Young Audiences to introduce thousands of children to dance, classical music and dramatic narration based on children’s traditional literature. New York Theatre Festival/Winterfest presented her play “Cakewalk” in November of twenty-twenty one.
She is working on a poetry collection and a three-act “new play.” Ms. Leigh Kinter is retired, except for writing and costume design lives close to her three illustrious sons, all involved in the art of theater. She is a widow and lives with her grandson, a handsome hound dog and two mischievous cats.
